A Typical Day

Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2

A typical day at Canklow Woods Primary School starts with a warm welcome.  Our day begins at 8.30am  when the classroom doors open, children are greeted at the doors to the classrooms by a teacher or sometimes other staff members.  Children will then make their way into class after washing their hands to begin their day,  

Mornings at Canklow school are still full of lessons ranging from numeracy, reading, writing, spelling and grammar, often PE or music.  Each class has its's own timetable, which you can find on the class pages. 

Morning Worskhop

All children will enter the classroom in the morning and complete a given task.  This may vary, but it will generally be a numeracy activity where children can practise and consolidate some knowledge or a skill from previous lessons.   This is a time where teachers and support staff can help and support children to secure understanding and move forward in their learning.  Children may also take part in preteach lessons here too, where they have a chance to understand learning prior to the days lessons.

Our mornings will then be a hive of learning, where classes will have reading, writing and numeracy lessons, occasionally a PE lesson will take place in the morning too.  This will take place outdoors or indoors, depending on the aspect of PE being taught.

Morning breaks

10.25-10.40  for Key Stage 1 and year 5

 10.45- 11 am for Key stage 2.

Lunch times

These begin at different times initially.

11.20 in Foundation stage

11.40 in year 1 and 2

and starting at 12.20 for key stage 2. 

Each class will eat lunch in the dining hall, where children will be offered a wide range of meals of hot meals including curry, vegetable bolognaise, roast chicken, dinner pizza and wedges, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, pasta pots, and so much more.  

Afternoons

Afternoons will vary depending on each class.  A typical afternoon will include handwriting, and a variety of other subjects such as Science, Religious Education, PE, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Music, PSHE and Spanish in Key Stage 2.  

First Steps 

Children who attend our First Steps will begin at 8.30 and until 11.30am and afternoon sessions will begin at 12.15 and end at 3.15pm Learning in First Steps is centred around books, stories, small world play, games and circle time. 

Foundation Stage 

Foundation 1 has both a morning and afternoon session.  The times are as follows:

Morning     8.30am - 11.30 am

Afternoon  12.15 pm -3.15 pm

Foundation 2 children begin their day at 8.35am and it ends at 3.05pm.

Children in FS2 will have lunch in school.
