'Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just illusions' - Michael Jordan
At Canklow Woods we aim to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge to be as active and knowledgeable as they can be about healthy lifestyles and living well. We intend for them to be able to make well-informed, healthy choices. It is the aim that children are given the confidence to pursue their sporting targets and to try new and exciting activities.
All children receive two PE lessons a week taught by the class teacher. The curriculum is designed to embed learning from previous years before building on this with new skills and knowledge.
In EYFS and KS1 the focus is on skills rather than full games and tactics. This enables children to learn the basic building blocks of physical activity, and to apply them in different contexts and with different equipment.
In KS2 children then begin to develop their use of these basic skills in game situations and when thinking tactically. Small sided games are used and concepts such as attacking and defending are introduced much more.
We also enable children to access before and after school clubs with Live & Learn Sports, as well as competitive fixture nights against other local schools.
Our school also engages in active travel initiatives such as Walk on Wednesdays, Modeshift Stars and Beat the Street.
Within other lessons children are also encouraged to learn actively.
