A Typical Day
Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2
Currently, due to Covid, our days are not all very typical. We have staggered start and finish times,as shown below. This eliminates the amount of traffic that is in the school grounds at any one time.
Year 1/2 8.40 start 3.05 finish
Year 3/5 8.30 start 2.55 finish
Year 4/6 8.20 start 2.45 finish
Mornings at Canklow school are still full of lessons ranging from numeracy, reading, writing, spelling and grammar, often PE or music. Each class has its's own timetable, which you will see on the class pages.
All children will take part in a Maths Workshop on entering the classroom- this is when children will complete various maths challenges over the week to consolidate and secure learning. This is also a very important time for children as staff will work with them on a individual basis to secure learning from the previous day or give a preteach session so children have a good start to new learning that day.
In all classes Reading sessions follow. This will include Read Write Inc for Key stage One and Foundation Stage and Reciprocal Reading for Key stage 2.
Reading is followed by Writing, Spelling and grammar lessons and numeracy. Each class/bubble has either a morning or afternoon for teaching and learning in PE. This will take place outdoors or indoors, depending on the aspect of PE being taught,
Our morning breaks are all different so that each bubble does not mix with another bubble.
Lunch is currently staggered also to allow for bubbles to stay separate. Each class will eat lunch in their own bubble, and will spend one day in the dining hall, where they can have a hot dinner if they like. Other days, children will be offered a wide range of meals that they can eat in the classroom, such as pizza and wedges, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and pasta pots. This will be changed to ensure that children are not offered the same thing each day and are able to choose from wide range of food.
Afternoons will vary depending on each class. A typical afternoon will include handwriting, and a variety of other subjects such as Science, Religious Education, PE, History,Geography, Art, Design Technology, Music, PSHE and Spanish in Key Stage 2.
Our School day finishes at staggered times due to the one way system and allowing children not to mix in their bubbles.
Children who attend our First Steps will begin at 8.30 and until 11.30am and afternoon sessions will begin at 12.15 and end at 3.15pm Learning in First Steps is centred around books, stories, small world play, games and circle time.
Foundation 1 has both a morning and afternoon session. The times are as follows:
Morning 8.30am - 11.30 am
Afternoon 12.15 pm -3.15 pm
Foundation 2 children begin their day at 8.50am and it ends at 3.15pm.
Children in FS2 will have lunch in school.
