A Typical day

A typical day at Canklow in Key Stage 1 and 2:

Many children begin their school day at 8:00 am where they enjoy a substantial, healthy breakfast. This is then followed by activity in one of the pre-school activity clubs.

8:40 classroom doors open and children arrive to take part in the range of activities offered as part of a maths carousel. In Key stage 1 on two days parents can join their child for Reading activities.

Maths carousel – while the class practice and use mathematical skills to play games and undertake investigations the teacher spends time with children who need help with misunderstandings from the previous days work.

9:00 am  Guided Reading – the class is organised into ability groups and given focussed tasks. Children may read eBooks, listening books, read newspapers, comics, nonfiction and fiction texts. In key stage 1 the focus is on developing fluency and confidence and stamina. In key stage 2 the focus is on Reciprocal reading - developing independence, resilience, reading stamina, comprehension.
