The Aims of Religious Education:

Religious Education (RE) is an essential component of a broad and balanced education and its place in the Basic Curriculum is statutory.  RE provides opportunities to explore and respond to the meanings of experiences in relation to the religions, beliefs and ways of life of others.

Learning and teaching activities in RE contribute to the achievement of curriculum aims for all young people to become:

  • successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
  • confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
  • responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society

Objectives:

Use same religious words/phrases to recognise and name features of religious life and practice

  • Recall religious stories and recognise symbols
  • Talk about own experiences and feelings
  • Show awareness of similarities in religions
  • Suggest meanings for religious stories, actions and symbols
  • Respond sensitively to questions about their own and others' experiences and feelings
  • Recognise their own values and those of others
  • Describe key features of religions
  • Make links between beliefs and sources
  • Describe same forms of religious expression
  • Ask important questions, comparing their own and others responses
  • Explain the impact of beliefs upon individuals and communities
