Welcome to Our Foundation Stage
For most children, their first experiences of school are in foundation stage. We aim to provide children with the best possible start to their journeys through school. We inspire a love of learning through providing first-hand experiences in a nurturing , play-based environment.
We take an objective-led planning approach, which aims to deliver the EYFS framework through a combination of learning through play and adult-led activities. We use topics and children's current interests to plan and deliver the curriculum. We enhance our continuous provision with these topics and interests to generate curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Our foundation unit comprises of First steps (2 year olds), F1 (nursery) and F2 (reception).
Early Years Foundation Stage
The Foundation Stage at Canklow Woods Primary School applies to all children joining us between the ages of 2 and 5 years old. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the curriculum that the children follow and it covers the three prime areas:
- Personal, social & emotional
- Physical development
And the four specific areas:
- Knowledge of the world
- Expressive arts & design
The foundation staff work as a team to monitor children’s progress through making observations of each child, assessments of their individual abilities, and collecting evidence of a child’s achievements such as paintings, drawings, writing and photographs.
Each child within the setting is assigned a key person to help them become familiar with the setting and to feel confident and safe within it.
Overall we endeavour to ensure that we build the very foundations upon which children at Canklow pick up a love of learning to take them throughout their education.
